‘70’s Teen Idol David Cassidy, Dead at 67
A lot of Women’s hearts are breaking today, as news of David Cassidy’s passing has made its way to the media. Cassidy was recently hospitalized in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. On Saturday, it was reported that Cassidy had undergone organ failure. He died Tuesday at the age of 67.
Cassidy’s publicist, JoAnn Geffen, put out a statement Tuesday night, “On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”
Cassidy rose to fame when he landed a starring role in “The Partridge Family,” a 1970’s musical tv series about a traveling family band. Cassidy was cast in the role of Keith Partridge, the eldest brother and lead singer of the family band.
With his boyish good looks, and feathered hair, Cassidy became an instant teen idol. Although the show ended after 4 seasons, Cassidy went on to have a successful solo career, even inciting “Cassidymania.”
The singer had some struggles with alcohol abuse in his young life, and spent several years going in and out of rehab facilities.
This winter, Cassidy revealed that he was diagnosed with dementia and would retire from touring.
“I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions,” Cassidy told People magazine at the time. “I want to love. I want to enjoy life.”
Cassidy left behind his daughter, Katie Cassidy, 30, and his son, Beau Cassidy, 26. Our thoughts are with his family.
