Angelina Jolie Plans Her Return to the Big Screen
It seems that after spending so much time behind the camera recently, Angelina Jolie is ready to start acting again.
In the first half of 2016, Jolie spent months directing Fist They Killed My Father (available September 15 on Netflix and in select theatres. Now she’s preparing to star in her first movie since 2015, when she acted in the romantic drama. By The Sea, a movie she wrote, directed and starred in opposite her now-ex husband, Brad Pitt.
“Right now I don’t have anything to direct that I feel passionate about like this [First They Killed My Father], so I’ll do some acting,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’ve taken over a year off now, because of my family situation, to take care of my kids.” Jolie had always said that her children’s needs come first. She adds, “When I feel it’s time for me to go back to work, I’ll be able to go back to work. I’ve been needed at home. I hope [to work again] in the months to come.”
Jolie says she will “most likely” shoot Walt Disney’s Maleficent sequel next because they’re working on the details of that currently. “And I look forward to having some fun with that. Cleopatra, there is a script. There’s a lot of different things floating around. But I haven’t committed.”
Jolie says that eventually, she “would love to” stop acting completely and just focus on directing full-time. “At some point, I’ll probably just direct. If I’m allowed to. But you just don’t know if you can have a career as a director,” the actress admits. “You don’t know how things are going to be received.”
For now, Jolie is focusing on promoting First They Killed My Father, a film that centers around the horrors of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia in the 70’s.
