First let’s start with their cover stories, Angelina Jolie’s first major post-split interview was featured as Vanity Fair’s September 2017 cover story and it is nothing like Brad Pitt’s Q&A that GQ published in May. His story turned him into the poster boy for self-awareness and introspection while her story holds a melancholy quality.
It seems the only thing they have in common (besides 12 years of shared memories) are the ups and downs of raising six kids between the ages of 9 and 15. Pitt is a dedicated father who is just getting used to the strains of co-parenting after working for months to iron out details following Jolie’s initial request for sole custody of their 6 children.
Meanwhile, as if Pitt has been reinventing himself since the divorce. From his surprise, unannounced appearance on the Golden Globes, to his cameo during Frank Ocean’s set at FYF Fest, Brad has been welcomed back to the spotlight with open arms.
Jolie, on the other hand, has been focusing more on motherhood.
“I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of the children. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is,” she told Vanity Fair. She has admitted to pushing aside her emotion until she has a rare moment alone for the sake of her kids’ emotional well-being.
In addition to her divorce, she’s also been battling Bell’s Palsy and hypertension. She’s been very quiet about her health problems, as in the past, until she had a conclusive outcome to share.
“Sometimes women in families put themselves last, until it manifests itself in their own health,” Jolie said.
Jolie still remains fairly tight-lipped about the details of her divorce but she did offer a sentiment about their status quo: “We care for each other and care about our family, and we are both working towards the same goal.”
