| Southern California Realtor Darby Farr has been spending a lot of time on the east coast since the death of her favorite aunt. She finds herself in Sarasota, Florida visiting her aunt's former real estate partner, Helen Near, to help close out her aunt's share of the business and transfer the share to Kyle Cameron, a young up and coming Florida Realtor.
Before the transfer occurs, Cameron is found murdered in a condo in which she was holding an open house. Police suspect the Kondo Killer who murdered two other Realtors in a similar manner on the east coast of Florida. After speaking with the police and meeting Kyle's ex-husband Jack and his family (Kyle's former mother-in-law is also a dear friend of Helen's) Darby realizes that Jack is a bit unstable, his father is no fan of Kyle’s and maybe someone else murdered Kyle hoping to pin the blame on the Kondo Killer.
The more Darby learns about Kyle, such as her affair with the developer who is the lieutenant governor's husband, that she was pregnant, and that the real estate agency she was leaving to join, Near and Farr, is a cut-throat agency and none too happy with Kyle, she suspects there are plenty of people on the west coast of Florida who would have wanted Kyle dead. When the police catch the Kondo Killer, they consider the case closed, except for Detective Briggs who gives Darby an important piece of information that confirms her suspicions that someone else is the killer.
When a second agent from Kyle's former agency is murdered, Darby and Briggs are even more convinced that the Kondo Killer is not responsible for Kyle’s death. Soon Darby is being stalked by a very odd character and she can't help but wonder if she's next in a killer's sights.
Killer Listing is a well-plotted cozy with several seemingly unrelated threads that all weave together neatly at the end. Darby is a poised, young woman, at ease in most situations, though at times she seems too good to be true. She never blinks an eye when a loyal employee asks to borrow half a million dollars for a "family problem." She and Briggs develop a close relationship quickly, but Darby realizes her life is in California, not Florida and knows there is someone who might be for Briggs in Sarasota and sets things in motion to help them out.
Helen and Darby make a good team in spite of their age differences and help each other close on a killer real estate deal, though one that requires a lot of good fortune and coincidences to allow Darby to participate. Kyle's murderer is not too obvious, and the motives are not as strong as some of the other suspects. There are plenty of suspects from which to choose and some good local color making this sultry atmospheric mystery a good choice for a lazy summer day.
