George Clooney: Great Guy and Even Greater Neighbor

Isn’t it great to have nice neighbors? In 2014, George Clooney and wife, Amal, purchased a gorgeous property in Sonning, Berkshire, UK for £7.5 million.

Since then, the Clooneys have been working on obtaining permission for a renovation plan project worth another £12.5 million. The renovation is very extensive and apparently very disruptive. It’s so disruptive that Clooney offered to compensate his neighbors for the trouble.

Neighbors John and Clare Grove are apparently the closest and most affected neighbor. Good old George offered them a £45,000 Corfu vacation so they could get away while the construction noise is at its worst. And he included cold hard cash equaling £30,000. He even threw in an all bills paid stay in a £780,000 cottage.

Townspeople report that the Groves were very stressed by all the renovation work, trucks and noise. The entire community talks about how generous the Clooneys are. Meanwhile, townsfolk frequently spot George and Amal in the village pubs, The Bull Inn and The French Horn when the power couple is in town.

The Groves returned to their home after the Clooneys finished their renovations. Sonning is quiet once again, and the Clooneys have their dream home.

The space now includes a new swimming pool, tennis court and a 12-seat movie theatre. The new digs added to the old footprint of the home, which included nine bedrooms along with its own gym, spa, steam room and library. The house also boasts a wine cellar, boathouse and a separate quaint cottage for live-in staff or guests.

It seems the renovations finished just in time to welcome twins later this year. Amal Clooney is a London-based human rights lawyer, so the couple wanted a new home nearby. Clooney also filmed The Monuments Men in nearby Oxfordshire, and rumors swirled that he fell in love with the general area.

The town was abuzz in 2014 when rumors about town said that Clooney might buy the mansion. The town vicar apparently kept everyone abreast of the situation. The home is spectacular, and it sits right on the River Thames. The mansion boasts four wooded acres with extensive gardens nestled among picturesque woods.
