In an interview with Lee Cowan on CBS Sunday Morning, Lady Gaga’s emotions ran high as she talked about her most personal album yet titled ‘Joanne’. She also discussed the inspiration behind the title song, her five-year long relationship and breakup with Taylor Kinney, indirectly shading her ex-fiancé.
When talking about the new music, Gaga sincerely admitted to the struggles, pain and tears that went into making the album, particularly when writing and recording the title song. It was written for an aunt (her father’s sister) named Joanne that she never had the chance to meet. Before Gaga was born, Joanne sadly lost her battle to Lupus at the age of 19.
The song ‘Million Reasons’ is also one that Gaga shares a deep connection with. Based on the heartache that comes with being in a relationship, Gaga related it to her split from Kinney when talking about the track.
On the subject, Gaga spoke about how women love hard with everything they have. She further went on to explain that that particular love is not always met with the dignity that women hope for. This seemed to be a subtle hit-out at Kinney, whom the singer split from in July.
While rumors about the lyrics in another song on Gaga’s new album titled ‘Perfect Illusion’ were said to be connected to Taylor Swift, Gaga denied them during an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM. The singer claims that the song was written about emotions that everyone in a relationship goes through at some point.
With the release of ‘Joanne’, Gaga earned her fourth #1 album, proving to many music critics that her fans, or ‘little monsters’ as she calls them, will stick by her side through any music transition. Her continued success hasn’t changed Gaga’s gratitude and humble nature, however; she remains grounded through it all which was fairly evident in her interview on CBS Sunday Morning.
Gaga did talk about the toll success has had on her personal life. She welled up as she told Lee Cowan how she misses interacting with regular people with whom she can have a normal conversation with. She went on to say that it is within her own heart that she truly feels she can be Stefani Germanotta. The lack of privacy in her life is owed to her fame which she calls the property line that she has to step across as Lady Gaga.
Currently touring to promote ‘Joanne’, Gaga is scheduled to perform at the Super Bowl LI halftime show on Feb 5, 2017. The much anticipated performance will take place at the NRG Stadium, Houston which is hosting the game.
