Psychic intuitive Abby Cooper and her private investigator Candice Fusco have been asked by the FBI to consult on a case involving three missing college students, all children of members of Congress. Since Abby’s main squeeze, Agent Dutch, is on desk duty pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs' investigation, Abby agrees as there will be no conflict of interest.

However, the lead agent on the case, Agent Harrison, doubts Abby’s skills and makes no bones about telling her so, putting her through a battery of insulting tests designed to prove her skill.  Even after she leads Harrison to a dead body he didn’t expect, he is still skeptical but grudgingly agrees to bring her along on the first interview.

Abby immediately realizes the first young woman Bianca is dead, but Harrison decides he no longer needs Abby and Candice’s help. Bianca’s parents hire Abby and Candice to continue looking into the young woman’s disappearance and Abby quickly finds links between Bianca, Kyle and Leslie. She also finds a fourth young man, Michael, who has not disappeared yet, but who Abby senses is in grave danger.

Harrison begins to come around as some of Abby’s feelings begin to pan out, and when Dutch is returned to full duty, he must keep his distance from the case as to avoid any appearance of impropriety. At the same time Dutch knows he must stay close to Abby who has a bad habit of putting herself into some very difficult and dangerous situations.

Doom with a View continues a fun series featuring the intrepid Abby Cooper and her sidekick Candice.  Abby and Candice have a great relationship, as do Abby and Dutch, and there are several times during this story that their friendships really shine through. Dave makes a cameo as he announces his move to Texas, but there are hints that this will not be the last time he shows up unexpectedly at Abby and Dutch’s dinner table.

The slowing economy is mentioned several times, giving the book a current feel, but also setting up Dutch’s big announcement at the end of the book. The mystery is very well plotted, and though Abby does rely on her intuition and “crew” to know she is headed in the right direction, there are many times that it is her intelligence and quick thinking that help move the investigation.

Agent Harrison is obnoxious and rude, but readers who recognize something else going on will not be surprised to see what happens at the end of the investigation. This entry is one of the stronger in the Psychic Eye and has enough back story that newcomers to the series can read it before the others. Doom With a View is strongly recommended.
