Mariah Carey is well known for her diva behavior, but she still surprises the people she encounters when she is involved in new projects. Recently, on the movie set of the Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell comedy, The House, Carey upset both cast and crew with her wild antics.
Carey was hired for limited role. She began to make demands prior to her arrival including that her trailer have white roses and stuffed lamb toys – paying homage to her fans who are known as “little lambs.”
“We did some reshoots with a pop star named Mariah Carey,” said actor Mark Huebel. “It did not go well.” He reported that Carey was very difficult while on the movie set. He continued, “[Expletive] what is going on with her? It was bananas.”
The crew waited more than four hours for her to show up for her one day on the job. “[Carey] was hired to sing one song, and she was like, ‘You guys, I don’t want to sing that song,’” said Huebel. “They’re like, ‘We hired you to sing this song.’”
Carey also critiqued the storyline of her character and requested rewrites to the script.
The script called for her character to die, but Carey did not like the outcome. “She was like, ‘I don’t think my character should get killed by bullets,” said Huebel. “What if I deflected them like Wonder Woman?'”
The film’s director, Andrew Jay Cohen, and producer, Adam McKay, soon grew tired of her requests and demands. Huebel shared, “They were like, ‘Mariah, we don’t have time for this. You’re getting paid so much money. We have you for one day. We don’t have time to argue with you. Just do it.’ She just didn’t want to do what they wanted her to do.”
Although she had great music success, Carey’s movie career has been limited. She has had roles in Glitter, Precious and The Butler.
She’s also started in some television programs – often featuring her diva lifestyle. Her most recent reality series, Mariah’s World, showed her tour and ending relationship with James Packer.
The House is set for release on June 29.
