Alex Winston, owner of Hatteras West Inn and Lighthouse in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, is delighted when his best friend Mor Pendleton announces his engagement to girlfriend Emma. The announcement is overshadowed by the discovery of Emma's ex-husband dead in Mor's truck. At first Mor and Emma are the two main suspects, but when one of the candidates for mayor of Elkton Falls is found dead, the suspicion turns elsewhere as police look to see if the two murders might be connected.

With all of this going on, and the grand opening of the Dual Keeper's Quarters and a full inn, Alex has more than enough on his plate. He has finally gotten his employee Elise to agree to a date with him. Even though her recent engagement break-up was not that long ago and she is showing signs of reluctance, Alex is certain the two are meant for each other.

In addition to all this, there is a strange pair of honeymooning guests who keeps demanding to be taken on a tour that includes all the guests' rooms. They are definitely not what they appear to be. Alex wants to see Mor and Emma married more than anything and decides the only way to patch things up between two of them is to solve the murders, elect a new mayor and have a wedding.

Room for Murder is a fun, light read that will appeal to fans of small town cozies, as well as those who enjoy bed and breakfast mysteries. Elkton Falls is a typical small town where most people know everyone's business and it is very hard to keep secrets for too long. Alex is working up a good network of in town business relationships that also supply him with gossip while he is working further out at the inn. Small town politics takes front seat in this mystery, from the mayoral election to the ordinance saying that Alex is limited in his lighting the lighthouse, an ordinance owner and guests would very much like to change.

There are plenty of red herrings throughout the book, though the clues that lead readers to the murderer and the reasons are not as obvious. The honeymooning couple provides a light, amusing side story. Though readers will figure out who they really are early on, they will still enjoy watching Alex learn their story, though the results are a bit far-fetched. An enjoyable setting will draw readers in and a lovable main character will have readers rooting for Alex and Elise and leave them eager to see what the future holds for the pair.
