The Fax of Life is another irrepressible entry in the Molly Masters series. Molly is back in her old hometown of Boulder, Colorado, for a vacation. She has agreed to hostess a greeting card workshop to be held in the luxurious mountain resort called the Red Fox. But then everything starts falling apart.

The resort is anything but luxurious -- it is, in a word, a dump. The original attendees of the workshop have been given the wrong week to come -- courtesy of the planner, Celia Wentworth -- so the slots have been filled with neighbors of Celia. The only really interested body is that of Molly’s old friend, Allison Kenyon. Unfortunately, Allison soon becomes a body -- a dead body! And Molly is the prime suspect in the murder.

Molly’s efforts to find the real killer turn into some close calls. She is locked in a very hot sauna for almost too long, she is treed by two ferocious Dobermans who would like to tear her heart out; and she is almost eviscerated by a Great Dane! As Molly says, “Boulder has gone to the dogs.”

Molly’s delightful humor keeps these mysteries rolling along. In her spare time, she draws greeting cards and faxes them to her clients. This plot also revolves around her efforts in getting her two best friends to the altar.

O’Kane does characterization very well. Everyone is believable -- not a stereotype in the crowd -- with just enough eccentricity to make them interesting. Clues are dropped continuously and it all fits together at the end, making perfect sense. Yet the reader is left guessing whodunit until all the pieces are tied up. A great read!
