On-Again, Off-Again Celebrity Couples
MILEY CYRUS & LIAM HEMSWORTH
This pair is make-up and break-up royalty. The two actors met on the set of The Last Song in 2009 and after three years of on-again, off-again dating, they announced their engagement in June 2012. But the seemingly perfect pair called things off in September 2013 and it looked like the end. But in the latest twist in this celebrity relationship, the two were back together by January 2016—and re-engaged.
KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN & SCOTT DISICK
The Keeping Up With the Kardashian stars got together in 2006 but split in 2009 due to too many trust issues. They reconciled when Scott surprised Kourtney in Miami, and soon after she became pregnant with their son Mason. Kourtney called it off at least once during her pregnancy, but by the time Mason was born in December 2009, they were back together. They broke up again, with Kourtney saying Scott wasn’t being good enough dad material, but ultimately they were together again and daughter Penelope arrived in July 2012. Together they stayed, despite the occasional bump in the road (usually due to Scott’s partying), and son Reign was born in December 2014. Kourtney called it off for good in July 2015, Scott having partied too hard one too many times.
SELENA GOMEZ & JUSTIN BIEBER
The adorable duo first started dating in 2010, and went public in March 2011. The pair split for a few days in 2011, but got back together only days later. They were going strong until the two broke it off for good in November 2012. Since their breakup, Justin and Selena’s relationship has been too all over the place to understand completely—they have both released songs and posted photos that have sparked numerous reconciliation rumors. Will they ever get back together? We never say never.
DENNIS QUAID & KIMBERLY QUAID
This couple married in 2004 and welcomed twins into the family three years later. Kimberly filed for divorce in 2012, stating that she and Dennis had a “conflict of personalities,” but she withdrew the papers only two months later. They separated again in October 2012 and Dennis filed for divorce, but they reconciled in 2013. Kimberly filed for divorce a second time in June 2016.
KATY PERRY & JOHN MAYER
Rumors of their relationship first emerged in August 2012 and all seemed to be going well, but then they split up in March 2013. The pair gave things another try a few months later—there were even rumors of an imminent proposal—but they called it off again in February 2014. In 2015 they were holding hands at a wedding and were seen together on New Year’s. It’s unclear when exactly they broke up for good, but Perry has since moved on with Orlando Bloom.
KYLIE JENNER & TYGA
After officially dating for a few months, they broke up on Tyga’s 26th birthday in November 2015, but were back on days later. They split up again in May 2016, but Kylie’s recent Snapchats suggest the two are hanging out again and may have rekindled their romance.
ZAYN MALIK & GIGI HADID
The two first coupled up toward the end of 2015 and broke up in early June 2016 after a history of being on and off. They were back on in no time, though, and after Zayn canceled a show in mid-June due to anxiety, Gigi took to social media to show her support.
PAMELA ANDERSON & RICK SALOMON
This couple first got married in 2007, but got the marriage annulled just two months later. They later re-married in January 2014, but six months later, Anderson filed for divorce. In August 2014, she asked a judge to dismiss the divorce proceedings. The couple had a rocky relationship afterwards and officially divorced in April 2015.
ROBERT PATTINSON & KRISTEN STEWART
By all accounts, the actors fell for each other on the set of The Twilight Saga. They spent a lot of time together on-screen, starting in 2008, but their off-screen relationship blossomed in May 2012. A cheating scandal in July 2012 didn’t put an end to things and the two were seen together again in August 2012; the relationship lasted another year until they took a break, got back together, and split for good in May 2013. Pattinson is currently engaged to British singer FKA Twigs.
DEMI LOVATO & WILMER VALDERRAMA
After nearly six years of breaking up and making up, they surprisingly split for good in June 2016, jointly stating on social media that they work better as “best friends.”
NICOLE SCHERZINGER & LEWIS HAMILTON
The Pussycat Dolls singer and racecar driver first stepped out as a couple 2007. Things appeared to be going well for several years, but they split in January 2010, citing busy work schedules. They were seen holding hands just four months later at the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix, but they split again in October 2010. They reunited in 2012 and this time there were rumors circulating that they might wed, but the pair split for the third time in July 2013. When Lewis took the world championship in Abu Dhabi in 2014, the couple was back together, but they separated for the fourth time in February 2015. More recently Nicole has been linked to tennis player Grigor Dimitrov.
MEGAN FOX & BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN
The actors began dating in 2004, and after two years together, Green proposed, but they split in 2009. A year later the two were engaged again and they tied the knot in Hawaii in June 2010. They welcomed two sons together, Noah and Bodhi. Fox filed for divorce in August 2015 but, after lots of cozy-looking sightings after they’d supposedly separated, Fox turned up pregnant with their third child together.
SAMMI GIANCOLA & RONNIE MAGRO
The dramatic duo were on-and-off during their time on Jersey Shore, but they remained romantically entangled until 2014, when they finally called it quits. They were rumored to be back together in March 2016 and vacationed in Italy together in April.
PINK & CAREY HART
The singer and motocross racer dated and separated briefly in 2003. The two got married in 2006, but broke up just 21 months later, in 2008. But they didn’t divorce, making it easier to reconcile in 2009. They talked openly about going to couple’s therapy and, in 2011, they welcomed daughter Willow Sage Hart into the world. They seem pretty blissful, though Pink did suggest that it might be time for their third break in 10 years, since breaks tend to work out well for them.
