Inspiration filled the audience as each speaker conveyed their messages at the Women’s March. One of them was Scarlett Johansson, who left everyone speechless. She demanded Donald Trump to focus on the rights of every woman and not just the rights of his daughter, Ivanka’s.
Last January 20, 2016, at the Women’s March in Washington DC, Scarlett Johansson shared a message, which everyone needs to endure the next four years of the Trump administration. The following is a quoted part of her memorable speech:
“Trump, I did not vote for you. I want to be able to support you, but first, I ask that you support me. Support the men and women today that are anxiously waiting to see if your next moves will drastically affect their lives… Support my daughter, who may actually (as a result of the appointments you have made) grow up in a country that is moving backwards and not forwards, and, who may potentially not have the right to make choices for her body and her future that your daughter Ivanka has been privileged to have.
Scarlett said this blatantly. She also referenced her hopes for her young daughter and the Pro-Life movement.
The Avengers star continued about Trump and equality.
“I ask you to support all women and our fight for equality in all things, including the fight to be recognized as individuals who know better for ourselves, what is right for our bodies, better than any elected official… I was living in New York City and had visited a Planned Parenthood there. It was actually my clinician at Planned Parenthood who suggested I speak with my pediatrician if I was seeking a referral. She was compassionate and professional and told me she was happy to treat me for regular checkups, and when the time came, for STD and cancer screenings. No judgment. No questions asked. Planned Parenthood provided a safe place where I could be treated with gentle guidance,”
What she said was very powerful. She talked about Planned Parenthood because the Republican party is seeking to defund this non-profit organization. As her parting statement, Scarlett Johansson she expressed how she truly felt about the present administration.
“The president is not America; his cabinet is not America; congress is not America. WE are America and we are here to stay,”
