Leigh Ann Warren, former Washington D.C. cop is working on setting up a police force in the Chesapeake Bay community Ourland/Umber Shores, an enclave mostly inhabited by her newly found extended family. Leigh Ann is planning to marry the love of her life in less than three weeks on the day after Christmas and is ready to move from the den of her best friend’s apartment into the condo with Duck.

Strange things have been happening all around Leigh Ann that niggle at her brain, but she is too busy to concern herself. That is, until she realizes that she is not only being stalked and harassed, but that the person doing this is serious about hurting Leigh Ann and those around her.

Some odd news clippings mailed to her, a friend accusing her of stepping out on Duck, and some dog and cat excrement left outside her former apartment door don’t add up to much. But when Leigh Ann is in the storage area of her basement and the police arrive on a tip that the fugitive they seek is Leigh Ann and is in the basement, Leigh Ann begins to suspect someone is out to get her.

Cancelled honeymoon plans, a stranger picking up her wedding gown and graffiti on her car bother her more, but when Leigh Ann realizes that the stalker has not only been in Duck’s apartment but has stolen a box of her personal papers, she knows she has a serious problem and works quickly to learn who hates her enough to try and ruin, or even end her life.

Killer Chameleon is very cleverly plotted as things that seem insignificant take on importance in retrospect. Clues are left in plain sight but are hidden as ordinary occurrences until the time is right to reveal the answer.

Leigh Ann, tied up in wedding plans and job changes, has a lot on her mind and dismisses many things as her own negligence. Even though she is self-sufficient, Leigh Ann also knows when she needs the help of friends and family and easily turns to them for additional support. Leigh Ann’s newly found extended family and how she found them may be confusing for those new to the series, but Leigh Ann is such an enjoyable character and the plot is so well plotted that most readers will be encouraged to seek out her earlier books and the pieces will fall into place.

Killer Chameleon is a fast-paced mystery full of twists and turns will have readers turning the pages into the early hours of the morning as they try to figure out who has been stalking Leigh Ann. Readers will root for Leigh Ann and Duck to make it to the altar before it’s too late.
