Will Nina Dobrev Return for the Vampire Diaries’ Swan Song?

Fans of the sultry Nina Dobrev will have to continue holding their breath for news of her return, sadly.

During the 2017 2017 Winter TCA Press Tour on Sunday, Mark Pedowitz, CW President, didn’t make official announcements about the show. The Vampire Diaries, a supernatural drama series on its eight and last season, will have its finale show on March 10, Friday.

But the biggest question among fans for the final run: Will Nina Dobrev return to the smash series? The television star left after the sixth season although she did voiceover work on the seventh season.

During the press tour, Pedowitz said that, “The best way I can answer that question is Julie, Kevin, the studio and the CW promise a fantastic series finale.” This was said after a reporter asked him about Dobrev’s possible return to the series.

Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec developed the show, which premiered on September 10, 2009 on The CW. The series itself is based on L.J. Smith’s popular book series with the same title.

Just in August, Pedowitz also said that THE CW was conducting discussions with the actress about her possible return.

He said, “There are discussions going on with Nina, we’d love to have her back. These are discussions that go on, hopefully she’ll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans.”

Dobrev will be seen on the big screen with Vin Diesel on the movie, XXX: Return of Xander Cage. She may or may not return for a last hurrah with the Salvatore brothers but, at least, her fans will enjoy her performance on a movie soon.

The Originals, a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, may or may not also return for another season. This depends on its ratings performance after its fourth season on March 17.

Pedowitz has also said that while he hopes The Originals will see another season, its return will largely depend on performance. Discussions will probably be made in May for this matter.

He also answered questions regarding the Charmed reboot. He stressed that the 1976 reboot, which will be set in 1976, will be a standalone series. The question of whether the original actors will return will still be determined.
